Installing firmware

Hey again. I am still trying to figure out the firmware situation.
I see that some debian packages come with just av7110 and keyspan_pda.
I am curious though, what happens to the other firmware? Does it get
built into the kernel? And why firmware_install installs dsp56k?
These are the questions that keep me up at night.
